Gavin Turk Exclusive November 2008

Gavin turk release (SOLD OUT)

We are very proud to be able to offer to the street art community the tag of one of Britain's most famous living artists. Gavin Turk, a former YBA comes from the same early group as Damien Hirst  and Tracy Emin. He is well loved for playing with the concepts of reality, legitimacy and ambiguity. His final college art show was called 'white cave' and was simply a  white washed studio space with a blue heritage plaque commemorating  his own presence as a sculpture. More recently he has played with our notion of what is real by populating the world with polystyrene cups, albeit made in heavy brass and painted white.

Gavin Turks Auction Saboteur exclusive today is a first. Simply his signature on a brick ... or should we say tag? We love the way this piece raises question about street or urban art. What is it? What isn't it? Why do we concern ourselves with leaving a mark? When does a tag become a brand?  When does the signature become more important than the art itself?

The new Gavin Turk offering  beautifully challenges the notion of genre, legitimacy and identity, this time from the perspective of street art. These original bespoke  pieces (or bricks as other people might call them) are a great example of Gavin's Work.

They are also really significant as they are not sold through an agent or gallery but actually available direct from Gavin's studio. This new development of artists maintaining financial independence from the gallery system represents a new chapter in the history of art with Banksy and Hirst already leading the way in this more punk direction.

The price is £500 including postage and packing to the UK which we believe is a complete steal for a Gavin Turk original . First come first served. Edition of only ten.
