Default Getting Banned Thread Mk.II

After some discussions I've opened a new 'getting banned thread'...firstly I'll get a couple of things off my chest -

if I see Silky do something that I feel is out of order and needs to be addressed i'll want to say something, I don't feel this is negative or bad karma but addressing a blight on the community.

Believe it or not, I don't have big issues with him or anyone in fact but I do find it infuriating that he continually gets away with abusing the forum for his own benefit with no redress

I think standing up to / rather than ignoring a bully which Silky is, is the way to go. I'm not trying to be negative but rather forthright in protecting something I find important. I know it's another forum but what else is there, as any form of questioning is surpressed there?

The great thing about here, is I can post this

...Right with that said, can i say this thread IS NOT to be abusive, we're not mud slinging, this is to state why we were banned and point out what we feel is wrong at .info, and let people judge.

Thanks Guys

and to get this started the reasons I was banned:

I did not agree with freedom of speech / criticism being frowned upon

I stated my disaffection for 100 Artworks / Cartrain and Silky's obvious sympathies towards them

I did not agree with certain people be allowed free rein because they backed up Silky on the obvious issues

I did not agree with bans occurring with no right to reply

I was seen as a 'sympathiser' to FPR, during the ridiculous antics of last xmas and Silky going back on his word

(now I know alot happened previously regarding backdoor prints etc etc, but the above is why I've been banned for life)

Ok everyone please use this thread wisely. If it gets too personal or could be seen as bullying i will find it difficult to argue against calls for it to be locked. That said, be free to speak your mind.

Official reason. I had someone ask for me as my account was disabled whilst I was doing it.

Apparently I obviously didn't want to be part of the forum and was obviously heading out so I got banned.

Indeed. The only reason I can think is he doesn't want too much data being removed from the forum. He wants to get rid of people with an opinion but keep their previous posts and accounts.

First up thanks for starting the thread.

In the spirit of what you've asked from us I don't really know why I was banned.

I made a post in a discussion, didn't think silky would like it but I was joining a discussion. He quoted my post made some odd comment, asked me a question then banned me. I found that to be an nasty demeaning thing to do, to create an impression that I was just making trouble and not prepared to back up what I said. I may have said things which could be construed as childish however I don't consider that I've ever bullied anyone on-line, in fact I'm of the opinion that all I've done is to recently start to stand up to it.

I'll have to come back to this later as I'm still too tired from the weekend to think straight

I am of course assuming this is why I was banned, as I was never told and did not actually make a controversial post which I would say 'that was what did it'

I was never told either when i was banned. On this forum if you ban someone you have a choice for giving your reason why in a last email, or not, I presume proboards have this options too. If we ever need to ban anyone, I'll ensure they are told why they were banned and the reason (what rule they contravened) is posted for all to see on the boards too. Fingers crossed it will never come to that.

if there is a reason, he would be not able to use as the reason's would be 'subjective' in most case's, coming down to personal opinion / disagreement rather than the breaking proboard rules etc

(anyone note in the papers there was the urban music awards last night...)

Definitely. Besides a PM should at least be sent with a warning of whatever it is you have done wrong.

Yep agreed, a PM warning should be issued first for anything other than something very, very serious. There are 'infractions' on this site, so you can get a yellow card first, never really looked into though.

But seriously- Banning someone because you think they are going to leave!!! WTF

Surely if they are gonna leave then why do you need to ban them. It just doesn't make sense.

ok .. i 'had my account suspended because i 'left' the forum' due to something i wrote here - something that was taken out of context of the conversation !

that was the 'given' reason ! but it boils down to being on 'their' team OR being an outsider and trouble maker !! guess which i was labelled as !!!

I was told to delete my account - i refused to delete my account - i got ' my account suspended because i had 'left' . end of story . glad to be away from all that nonsense .

funnily enough only my banksy.info account was 'suspended because i left' - all my other accounts with other forums run by the same person were left active !!
where's the logic in that ? i have since taken the step to delete all other accounts held by me on the other forums - except for one.

Love this:

Being Banned is where locked out of the forum, your IP is blocked, your email is blocked, you cant even view the forum.

A Disabled account is just one thats just locked, and that can be set to open again after a set number of days.

Can be set to open again, but wont. Plus it makes the numbers look better to keep them all disabled.

Guys this is a space for people to get the story straight and not for just taking the piss out of people ... however much they may deserve it.

... and yes anyone can set up a thread discussing anything they want in the everything else section within reason. However if it looks like bullying i may have too lock it. You know the score.

i must apologise - i used the description ' BANNED' to describe why i was unable to partake any longer in the Banksy.info forum .. this was a massive mistake ..

I am in fact not banned . i am merely 'DISABLED' because i 'agreed' to leave

Cheers Sulky. Matt is only one of a long and fairly distinguished list of members (including a few artists) that have been banned from the forum (or just deleted their accounts in disgust) . Its a behavior pattern that has been consistent from the beginning of the creation of .info and not actually one i think will ever change sadly and therefore not actually worth giving too much thought to. A wise person would say 'sorry, been a bit silly' and offer an amnesty to all banned members and promise to not be so trigger happy again ... but cant see it happening.

Good to have you on board though.

I'm banned, not disabled. My IP is banned at home and me and 300 others are banned at work due to my IP etc etc...

I think I was banned for telling Cartrain that even if he ever did a piece I liked, I wouldn't buy it because he was a particularly unpleasant individual...

Yeah, go figure...
